Arizona FCCLA Scholarship Portfolio

All scholarship applicants who are granted an interview at the Spring Leadership Conference must bring a portfolio to the interview.   Please use the following criteria for assembling your portfolio.

Materials will be contained in an 8-1/2” X 11” notebook, binder, folder or carrying case.   The contents of the portfolio should be typed using correct spelling and grammar.

The portfolio could include the following:

  • Resume

  • Letters of recommendation

  • Information showing awards, accomplishments, and honors received

  • Materials which show your participation in leadership, community or extra curricular activities

  • Projects or other evidence of your skill and competency attainment

  • Other materials that would indicate your qualifications and/or need for this scholarship

Portfolio will be awarded points as part of the interview process.   Total points awarded will be based on:

  • Neatness, legibility

  • Creativity

  • Selection and content of materials

  • Grammar and spelling

  • Ability to use portfolio to reinforce qualifications and need for scholarship

The following steps outline the process used for choosing scholarship recipients and alternates.

Step 1:

Student completes the application packet (includes cover sheet, application form, financial form and 3 recommendation forms) and mails it to the FCCLA State Office before the due date.

Step 2:

The State Scholarship Committee reviews application packets to make sure they are complete and meet all criteria.  Applicants not passing the initial review will be notified by mail by March 15.  The criteria not met will be identified.

Step 3:

Application Packets are then sent to the Application Review Judging Team.  The judging team will consist of at least 3 members who will rate the application packet using the application rating sheet.

Step 4:

Scores from each of the judge’s application review sheets will be averaged.  Applications with an averaged minimum of 90 points will qualify to be interviewed at Spring Leadership Conference.  (If less than 6 applicants qualify the minimum points may be lowered at the desecration of the Application Reviewing Judging Team.)

Step 5:

All students will be interviewed on the same day and place by a panel of judges.  Date and place will be determined annually.  Each students will be assigned a time. Students should dress professionally for the interview. .

Step 6:

Students not assigned an interview will be notified by mail.  A copy of the Application Rating Sheet from each of the judges will also be included.

Step 7:

The scores from the Interview Rating Sheets of each judge will then be averaged.

Step 8:

The scores from the interview process and the application process are then averaged to get a total score.

Step 9:

The student with the highest score for each scholarship will be considered the recipient, the student with the next highest score will be the alternate.

Step 10:

A student may only receive one scholarship unless there are less than 5 finalists that qualify.  No student may receive more than two scholarships.

Step 11:

The scholarship recipients and the alternates will be announced at the awards ceremony at Spring Leadership conference.  (Students who are not in professional dress will not be allowed up on stage.)

Step 12:

The student will need to complete any necessary paper work required by the Arizona FCCLA Board of Directors for their selected institution of higher learning prior to June 15 or they will forfeit their scholarship to the alternate.  All monies awarded must be used in the academic year following the award.

*****The scholarship money awarded will be split between the first and second semesters.  Student will need to submit documentation that they have successfully completed the first semester before funds for the second semester are released.  The Barbara Border scholarship will not be renewed if the criteria explained on that cover sheet is not met.  Scholarship funds must be used in the academic year following the award.
